A. 2014 Sochi Olympic Games marked the first time that the Winter Olympics were held in Russia. The country had previously been home to the Olympics when Moscow hosted the 1980 Summer Games. The athletes participated in the greatest number of events in Winter Games history, including 12 new events. Russia finished the Games with the greatest number of gold medals — thirteen.

As a teen, it is important to remember that the healthy habits you adopt now will carry with you throughout the rest of your life.
C. Yelena Isinbayeva was born on June 3, 1982 in Volgograd. She is an outstanding pole-vaulter who achieved numerous world records and became the first woman to clear the 5-metre mark in the sport’s history. She is a two-time Olympic gold medallist, the current world record holderin the event, and is widely considered the greatest female pole-vaulter of all time.
D. Of the nine species of brown bear found in Russia, the Eurasian and East Siberian call Siberia home. Actually, the world’s biggest population of the Eurasian brown bear lives just east of the Urals. Brown bear has been used as a symbol of Russia in literature and culture since the 16th century. The 1980 Moscow Olympics had Misha as the competition mascot.
E. In this course, we will explore some of the fundamental ethical issues raised by sport. We will study the nature of sports to see what values sports have and what values sports should promote, gender equity in sports among them. We will promote better understanding of the ethics of sport through brief lectures, debate in the discussion board, interactive media, and some selected readings.
